The DelFly project has been busy since the last time we checked in on them. The Dutch team started 13 years ago and produced the smallest camera-carrying drone, and an autonomous tiny ornithopter. However, that ornithopter — now five years old — had to use some traditional control surfaces and a tail like an airplane which was decidedly not fruit fly-like. Now they’ve solved those problems and have announced the DelFly Nimble, a 13 inch and 1-ounce ornithopter. You can see the Nimble in the video below View…

While flying a drone over the completely flooded four-lane Interstate 40 on Monday, the North Carolina Highway Patrol spotted an unusual sight: A motorized boat leaving a large wake over the highway.  The storm formerly known as Florence — which hit North Carolina as a Hurricane last Friday and then proceeded to drop historic rainfall over much of the state — has brought catastrophic and deadly flooding to inland cities and coastal communities alike.  SEE ALSO: How flocks of birds got trapped inside the eye of Hurricane Florence…

Marine biologists have solved a fascinating ocean riddle—the purpose of the “white shark cafe,” a remote spot between Hawaii and Baja California, situated in the Pacific Ocean, where great whites congregate annually, en masse. Could it be a mating area? Perhaps. Or a birthing ground? Less likely, due to its vast distance from coastal nurseries. Even weirder was the behavior of male sharks there. Tracking tags bolted to the sharks’ fins revealed that males would bob up and down, as many as 120 times per day and to…

Have you ever dreamed of flying, but lack the funds to buy your own airplane, the time to learn, or the whole hangar and airstrip thing? The answer might be in a class of ultralight aircraft called powered paragliders, which consist of a soft inflatable wing and a motor on your back. As you may have guessed, the motor is known as a paramotor, and it’s probably one of the simplest powered aircraft in existence. Usually little more than big propeller, a handheld throttle, and a gas engine….
